well I finally ran outta of my New old stock of Mercon fluids. I had previously been using Mobil 1 syn, In my 00 F-350 with HEAVY very HEAVY towing, (28k+) with 330,000 miles on it im due for another trans flush soon.

The truck is going into a semi Retirement from abusive tow duty's so im going to go with a conventional ATF no need for an exotic synthetic.

For some reason im having a [censored] of a time finding Chevron ATF anywhere local.

what about Allison Transynd in a 4R100?

I also have several older ford F-450 service trucks with the unreliable at best E4OD that also used mercon. And would most likely use whatever buy in those also. I Go through about 20+ gallons of ATF over the coarse of a year.

Transynd is a syn transmission fluid.

Wow if I had that many vehicles I would be running the longest product I could. As it is I take care of a fleet of family vehicles myself.

well I have 3 of them in my driveway for personal use and then 6 more at the company for business. No one has any thoughts on weather or not transynd is a good idea or what I should go with?

I remember back when they first changed the name of the E4OD to the 4R100 they sent out TSB's stating that MERCON V was NOT to be used in them.

The Mercon V formula was changed a few years ago and now most Mercon V is dual rated with Mercon. Ford has a TSB 6-14-4 that states that Mercon V is the fluid of choice for older Mercon transmissions.

I think that you could go longer-change intervals using a licensed cheap Mercon V like SuperTech, since the Mercon V is a better ATF.

The Transynd and the Amsoil "Torque Drive" clone should last a real long time, but run around $50 per gallon, so the initial $$ "hit" would be pretty steep.

I have Castrol's high mileage ATF (green bottle) in my Bronco's E4OD and have been very happy with it. I tried the Valvoline maxlife (red bottle) and couldn't get it out fast enough. It had a habit of going into limp mode every couple of days when I first got it but a change to Castrol has that cleaned up.

I recently topped it off with the new Mobil 1 ATF but didn't notice any change in performance.

the reason I was thinking the transynd is that I get a pretty decent parts break from a friend that works for the new local Allison repair center and they sell it larger quantity so I don't have to deal with 3 million quart bottles all over the place.

With 15 quarts per flush and fill and someday's I will do 3 trucks in a day. when im set up for Trans flushes I just freight train through and get it out the way but that's a Huge pile of empty's.

I wish the sold the M1 in gallons.

The last flush I did was on my OBS F-450 with the "NEW" ford dual rated fluid and it has developed a nice annoying shudder after 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. So far this new dual rated fluid hasn't impressed me much. Also the transmission will go into its lovely limp home mode every other day. Its getting really old having to pull the battery cables almost after every trip.

All the TES-295 fluids (and the clones for that matter) are excellent fluids in design (viscosity, film strength, and such). They are premium upgrades for the older DEX/Merc products.

If you can get TranSynd at a break on cost, it would be an excellent choice, I would think.

Good to know. giving the inherent fragility of the early E4OD's especially in my Turbo IDI fords I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to end up buying even more transmissions.

The 4R100 is much more reliable but all of mine are well over 200,000 miles at this point so I don't want to take my chances there either.

Dualie,

Find yor local chevron jobber. I picked up a 5 gallon pail of chevron MD3 today for $49.81 + tax. It's going in my 4R100. I'm still not comfortable putting Mercon V in it.

well my local chevron lubes dealer has SMOKEING pricing on the MD-3. so all my trucks are now getting that. I have 5 different company's within 30 miles of here that are bulk chevron lube dealers and this guy blew them all outta the water.

so far my 2000 F-350 has firmed up its shifts and reduced the Torque converter slipping with the new fluid VS the OLD Formulation Mobil 1 syn ATF with to many miles on it.

15 gallons was around $120 bucks.

I got it all back to the shop and realized some SOB liberated my good bucket pump. ARGH! I ended up pouring it into a transfer container about a gallon at a time. worked pretty well. a little harder to keep track of my quart scheduling for the flush of the old fluid but as soon as I find my Good bucket pump im going to be back in business.

next is my F-350 that's shuddering like a mother with the "new" Mercon formulation in it. cant wait to dump that junk with less than 3,000 miles on it.

And with that price i can do 3 MD-3 flushes for the cost of one Trasynd fill. I didnt know that MD-3 even existed before.
