So in my curious fiddling about I run across Dura Lubes classic line of additives that nobody with common sense would ever add to their vehicles, but I found this even more stunning...

Of course, Dura Lube's terrible website gives you little useful information so I looked it up online, eventually coming across it on Canadian Tire's website.

At least finally someone admits what all these glorified oil thickeners are for. Much as personally I think "between oil changes" should actually read "between engines".
