Duracell 96R battery in my friends early 2010s Malibu. East Penn manufactured in 2018. Took on a 10 hour drive to FL and when we got here we mostly used my van instead. Car sat for 3 days and when they went to start it to take it the car went click and no start. Hood opened to find a cap not in the battery anymore. Any clue why? The car jump started fine and ran but the caps shouldn’t be blowing off the battery like that.

Guess, low on water. Got hot, vapor popped the cap off. But just a guess. Anyway 7 years is a long time for a modern battery.
Makes sense. Put a new maintenance free Everstart Plus T5 in it to replace that old Duracell 96R

Never had that happen. My son in laws work truck battery swelled like a kankle wearing an ankle bracelet but never blew.

Was the blown off cap found?
Examine the threads. Maybe a weird batch of bad plastic resulting in melted threads, allowing blow off?
OR
Someone did a real lazy job replacing it....perhaps just catching a thread crookedly?
It could've shaken off before the long trip.
