Hi everyone and Happy Labor Day!

My question may be dumb to some, but here goes.

I have 2 left over FL400S Motorcraft filters for my wife's 2.0 Zetec, since I have enuff oil and filters for 3 years...except I need to purchase 2 filters for myself..can I use the FL400S on my Dakota 3.9 V6?

They have the same base gasket size only difference is the diameter. I know some will say don't be cheap just get 2 filters that are called for. I am not being cheap, just want to use them as they are fine filters. This will be for a short make-up OCI of 3000 miles. Also these are the new shorter 400S not the longer versions which I do not think would fit as they would be to tall.

So what say the experts? Thanks in advance.

Yes you can use that filter. The Valvoline instant oil change places consolidated many of their filters. That is what they use on Chrysler's.

There was a reason why I only used an FL400S once on my PT Cruiser, but it wasn't due to filtration or anything like that.

I think it may have had to do with the mounting location, length of the older FL400S, and the fluted end of the filter.

The PT's filter is mounted on the oil cooler and if your filter is too long or has a funny end, you might have to struggle to remove it.

Shouldn't be a problem on the Dakota.

Thanks to everyone for the responses! Looks like it is a go!
