I have been doing some reading here and am new to the oil analysis and i have to ask this question.

How do you guys get your oil in the Blackstone bottle without making a ________ of a mess and loosing all the oil in the engine??????

You can either pour it from a plastic container AFTER you change your oil or siphon it out through the dipstick hole.

Just back the drainplug out enough to get a steady drip, it takes a minute, but its not messy. Just make sure the outside of the plug and surrounding pan are clean so you dont get any dust/dirt in there with it.

I just rush a clean funnel with the bottle under there during mid-drain, then rush it back out of the way when full. It can be done without too much mess if you're quick...and careful. Otherwise, what they said. ^^^^^^^^

The good thing about the Fumoto with a nipple & hose....

Oil changes are a snap and catching hot oil for a UOA are simple. No mess, not one drop of oil spilled.

Topsider oil extractor if you really want no muss or fuss.
All you have to get under the car for is getting the oil filter. Unless you have a BMW, then you'll never get under the car.

Do you have a picture or website for that?

Here's some pics of a Topsider being used to perform an oil change on a Mercedes:

Btw, my routine for the BMW is pump the extractor & let it suck oil out automatically, replace filter @ the same time (BMW filter is in front of engine up top under the hood). ~ 20 minutes. Empty a little bit for Blackstone UOA & bring MityVac to a gas station to dump out in their recycle bin.

For my Mazda: extract oil, drive the car up front ramps, change the filter underneath, recycle. ~30 minutes.

Also, isn't cleaning of those things (Topsider, MityVac) a PITA? Otherwise, if you don't clean it, you'll contaminate the next sample you draw...

In context: I had one sample taken from an unclean MityVac on my Mazda that Blackstone said had coolant in it. Leakdown test from dealer said negative.

Haven't gotten Terry Dyson's opinion yet & since this has never happened before in 10+ samples...nothing is being ruled out.

It's not a PITA to clean out. Just rinse with a hose & some Dawn & pour it.
