Drove with Dex VI today

I have a 72 Suburban that I fully restored a few years ago. Has a 350 with reputably built late model TH700R4 behind it. Drained the Coastal Dex III ATF that was in it yesterday and filled with fresh Pennzoil Dex VI. I put about 30 miles on it today. I may be imagining things but it seemed to shift smoother and a little sooner than before. I am pleased.

My second day with Dex VI. Again, shifts seem noticeably smoother. If not for the sound of my vehicles loud exhaust I would likely not be able to detect shifts at all.

It seems to be getting great reviews in the limited testing (other than GM's) it's gone through. I wonder how it performs/how applicable it is in a T56 trans?? I guess I'll have to call & bug the Tremec techs yet again to see if they've tested/approved it's use in this application. My guess is they were forced to test it, given the backdating to early Dex 2/3 fluids, and that at SOME point Dex 3 might become unavailable. If so, they have some explaining to do about their TOTAL BAN on using ANY way/shape/form of synthetic fluid in this transmission.
Does ANYONE know exactly what percentage of Dex 6 basestock is synthetic??

The Kendall/ConocoPhillips DexVI is 85-87% "synthetic lubricant base oil-proprietary" with the balance being additives and their solvents. The GM/PetroCanada DexVI is 100% "severely hydrocracked and hydrocracked base oil with proprietary additives"

I would think that Dex VI would be fully backward compatable with the Dex III standard. But I'm still getting up to speed on this new juice.

It's rubbish there is no product that can convert another one into a DEXRON-VI.

You only have to read the specification to realise that this claim is worse than ridiculous.

However this time I do agree with you unDummy, it does deserve it's own if only so that we can smoke them out and stop them from selling people expensive rubbish.

The GM guys tell me its all GroupIII at best by design..

Oh yeah...FWIW Petro Canada makes all the factory fill for GM. The DexronVI stocked by dealers is made by Conoco & Exxon Mobil

If you saw the release of DEXRON-VI releases and the spec it is clear that the spec is very tight.

That is, what it seems to me, is what scares the non approved fluid companies.
