From Auburn Kansas to Salina Kansas just for Braums ice cream. Little over 124 miles. Got really good mpg. Might do this on a weekend basis.

The wife and I rode the Harley to Apex, N.C. to have a Schlotzsky's Original sandwich a few months ago. 180 mile round trip and averaged 46 mpg. Eat to ride, ride to eat.

I have one of those 5 mins away from my house, so I never thought of them as particularly special, but I can see how others would perceive them differently.

About a year ago they changed their burger strategy, but before that Braums was one of the few fast food places that gave you a 1/3lb beef patty on any burger.

Gf and I go on road trips all the time just for the purpose of going out to eat. I love food road trips!!

That's the closest Braums to my house too. I go for runs to bring back their Peppermint Ice Cream. Fact, when driving back to altitude the ice cream expands nearly 2" off the top of the container. You can eat it along the way and still bring back full ice cream boxes!

I went to college there. Wasn't the BG factory in El Dorado at one time?? Do you sneak into Wichita on West Douglas for a Nuway sandwiches too?

Those Kozy burgers in salina are pretty good too. Louisburg has the best ciders. Lindsborg has a great little Swedish population and culture. Pizza Hut started in Wichita as well as Spangles and White Castle. We got more wheat and open space than about anybody too.

This is such a North American thing. I've driven to Ottawa (3hrs) just for the heck of it in an evening back when I had my Explorer. Relatively cheap gas, long roads...etc. There's a burger joint on Highway 11 called Webers that's a 2hr drive that people during the summer will make the trek to.

yes it is.... I remember learning to fly when Yuengling wasn't available in New England and my flight instructor, who grew up in PA, and I would take one of the school Cessna 152's and fly from Cape Cod to North Philly to load up the hold (what "hold" a 152 has..) with a few cases....very good days

When I was at Uni, we had guys that would drive the several hours to Nova Scotia to do "a run" for Keiths Dry, which wasn't available in New Brunswick

Definitely a North American thing. A 2 or 3 hour drive in some European countries would take you across the entire country! That Webers place is crazy in the summer, I have seen lineups that must be 150 people deep waiting!

Butler County Community College is still there and has expanded their campus.

The refinery in El Dorado has expanded and is being upgraded as well.

There is now a BG warehouse that that came into town about the time we left. The main BG facility is still in Wichita as far as I know.

NuWay, you bet. I was down at Waco and 2nd for a Hamfest so yes I did.

We've seen Braums while driving through Emporia. We don't have any around KC (that I know of). We'll have to stop at one next time. Thanks for the tip. I've driven to Tulsa (twice) and Salina to buy new cars, but I'll never that far for ice cream.
