Drove both the Cybertruck and the Sierra EV... There is a clear winner!

IMO, the Cybertruck would still be far too expensive if it looked “normal”. It might even sell worse as it wouldn’t get the attention it gets now for looking so weird.

Those casting, steer-by-wire, 48v stuff, etc. cost a ton of money. “We dug our own grave” was the quote. That’s why no one else does them - and it’s why CT ended up with such a tiny, poor charging battery. It would have been even more expensive with the battery lied about it getting.

We really need to rip the bandaid off on the 48V low voltage systems. We should have went to this years ago. Now we've got vehicles with 12V, 48V, 400V all in the same car. Cadillac just released a new car like this. It's unnecessary.

Oh no Im bummed to hear the GMC stinks!
It was my last best hope, but without any real independent videos yet I just couldnt tell.

The cybertruck is an extremely cool fun thing.

It's just not really a truck except in the loosest sense.

It's what you get when a room full of otherwise really smart guys that dont have the guts to stand up to the boss, or the guys you put in charge never used a truck.
Or a hugely successful CEO who has come to believe he can do no wrong.

I agree. A small LiFePO4 battery instead of a 12V lead-acid, can do everything needed, and could even be a lifetime battery if well managed.

The whole low voltage system isn’t 48V on your Audi though. The Cybertruck is.
Too bad Tesla doesn’t get it. 12v winch, 12v helix stereo, 12v lighting,12v radar detector. it’s kind of a joke that they don’t get it. The rest of the world is still 12v. Most manufacturers understand that.

What are you talking about? Tesla is the closest to a complete 48V system that has ever existed. Sure it can be pushed farther, but everyone else isn't even trying.

Good for them. Can’t buy any accessories because they are 48v. Every other manufacturer does 48+12v for that reason. It’s not rocket science.

Good point. I had not considered the winch issue. Might be super-fast on 48V :ROFLMAO:

Sierra EV curb weight: 8,800 lbs
Sierra 1500 curb weight: 5900 lbs fully loaded
Cybertruck curb weight: 6901 lbs

These fatties really need to lose some weight. Also, budget for tires every 7-10k. The engineers didnt care about how quickly they eat them.

You can feel the difference in weight when you drive it, that's one of the reasons I think the Cybertruck drives and handles so much better than the Sierra EV. Yes, the weight of the Sierra EV's battery is in part because it's a much higher capacity (205kwh vs 122kwh on the CT), so you lose range (especially when towing), but for me, it doesn't matter.

What's actually impressive is how light the Cybertruck is for what it is. My Prologue (a mid sized ish SUV) weighs 5200lbs. The Cybertruck AWD weighs 6600lbs. Keep in mind the Prologue has an 85kwh battery. Just goes to show how far ahead Tesla is in efficiency and weight savings. Now, there is some downside to this... serviceability. On GM Ultium platform vehicles like the Prologue or Sierra EV, you can (in theory) take the pack out, disassemble the modules, and rebuild it. From my understanding, on Teslas, it's much more difficult to do that as it uses a bunch of cylindrical cells glued together into one big blob.

Its shocking to me how heavy GM's electric trucks are. I'm also impressed with how much lighter nearly every Tesla is. I think that's the benefit of spartan interiors and "cheap" materials(though I don't think it feels cheap in my opinion). My Model Y Performance weighs in at 4,400lbs and the RWD Model 3 is 3,800lbs.

The fact that your MYP is almost 1000 lbs lighter than a Prologue with like double the performance and the same range... lol.

Trucks typically way more than cars😀
I suspect that’s why trucks will always be preferred to be powered by gasoline. Batteries just aren’t practical. But the top of the line Chevy pick up trucks. Have one heck of a massive battery no range anxiety there.

This is a cool source of information for almost every car on the market. Teslas are small so you would expect them to be at the lighter end with the others. Most Americans are in love with the SUV.

I mean per vehicle in each segment. When it comes to EVs, Tesla is typically the lightest vehicles in each segment even when they're the same size.

I'm with you when it comes to trucks. The very thing that trucks are capable of doing are the biggest shortcoming with EVs. As far as range anxiety goes if that takes a 9k lb EV pickup truck to haul a couple of people and not much else, there are much better options, but it will be popular because people want trucks even if they don't need it to do truck stuff.

One person’s love is another person’s distain
Some people like trucks versus cars

I get it, it just seems like a lot of weight to haul around just to move a person. That's the only reason why I traded my truck before. An 80 mile round trip commute at 17-21mpg when I mostly used the truck for that was costly. As far as space for my family and luggage when necessary, the Model Y does nearly the same thing. For that matter the Silverado EV to operate would still be easily cheaper than my 5.0 V8 F150, but my usage doesn't really land in the need category for a truck. For the right price I'd still consider something like the Silverado EV, but I think at 9k lbs it may collapse my two story garage. It's crazy to think there's a civilian use vehicle that weighs twice as much as my EV crossover. I thought it was already heavy. Aside from my F150, it's the heaviest vehicle I've ever owned.

For that matter I'm amazed that the Model Y Performance is only 100lbs heavier than the 2014 Ford Edge Sport we used to have. I honestly thought about selling the F150 and keeping it when I bought the Model 3 for my wife, but we just had a lot of random mechanical issues with it and I didn't feel like continuing to mess with it.

I would have definitely pulled the pink wrap off of it and restored it to this if I did. Not a bad looking vehicle.
