Has anyone heard of this oil? I just saw an advertisement for it in my "Muscle Mustangs and fast Fords" magazine. It comes in various viscosities. drivenracingoil.com Says it's born from Joe Gibbs Racing. Looking at the website, the oil seems to be very expensive at $11.99 a quart. Who knows how good it really is but it's too expensive for me.

I've heard about it mostly in racing circles. Not sure if they make it in a 5W50, but seeing as how I would need 9 quarts for an OC, I'll pass.

if you're a watcher of "Fast N' Loud", you likely remember the Smokey & The Bandit Build, where they had the motor rebuilt, and instead of using the break in oil their builder said to use, they instead used regular oil(IIRC O'Reilly oil, they hadn't signed on with Havoline yet) and a break in additive. and had to have it rebuilt again, at the 11th hour. the second time they used the right oil.

that break in oil(that the builder called for) was from the Joe Gibbs Driven Line.

I recently had some work on my 911 and the shop put in the Joe Gibbs Driven DT40 (5W40) in my 911 and it comes highly recommended by Jake Raby of Flat 6 Innovations, a Porsche engine shop that builds and repairs Porsche engines. Higher levels of ZDDP. More on this oil at LN Engineering and Flat 6 Innovations website.

A few used oil analysis on the 5W40 DT40 are posted at: rennlist.com/forums/991/810337-used-oil-analysis-on-991-a-2.html

One of many correct oil's for breaking in a flat tappet engine. If you have a hot rod with a flat tappet cam driven on street their other Hot Rod oils would do the trick.

I like the JGD oils, but I won't even try them since he (Gibbs) switched to, and boosts/promotes the Nippon Giant for his Cup teams.

I've looked at their DT50 and HD50 oils for a couple of my applications. Once upon a time, I didn't hesitate to splash out on some fancy oil but these days my stuff seems to hold together just fine on much more pedestrian lubricants.
