Door / window seal water tighting

Hey guys, here is a question I've found a lot of people I've asked in person seem to have trouble answering. My car is in really good cosmetic shape all except for the door and window seals. How do you replace the door seals? Even a make-shift method that works would be appreciated.

My first concern is the outer window seal strip. It has chunks missing and I don't like rain running down into the door as I have power locks and windows, I realize I will need to take the panels off for that job but it's mainly the door seals that I'm not sure how to repair.

I've used foam self adhesive weather stripping. But man is it ghetto. Ice sticks to it pretty fiercely too.

I found some brown stuff at home depot that's rubber-ish and kind of similar to car weather stripping (cut it and you get a D shaped cross section) that I've also used.

But the adhesives aren't that great.

If your weather stripping is just less supple, you can bend the window frame closer to the car to force it to compress better. Just stick your knee(s) on the inside lower door, roll the window down, and yank inward on the frame.

Are replacement seals available? Either aftermarket or OEM? Perhaps an automotive window replacement company might be able to steer you to a good aftermarket source.

I can buy all brand new rubber seals for my MBs.

Often even if companies dont make them anymore, some Asian person someplace has the molds and makes them (been there, done that).

If the car is worth keeping for a while, go OE seals if available. The fit and operation will be better than other stuff.

Replacement seals are avaliable for most vehicles.The older than dirt JC Whitney Co. carries a large inventory and may have what you need depending on the age and model of your vehicle.You can google"jcwhitney"and see if they have what you need.I purchased a complete set for an old 73 Ford p/u that i semi restored,good quality and custom fit,no problems installing.They are a litle pricey for what they are but it's the only true fix for door and window seal problems.
