For what it's worth, my previous chev truck's owners manual said to lube the lock mechanisms with plain old 5w30.

They mean the actual lock mechanism, not the lock cylinder. =-) You don't want anything that will attract dirt, or have dirt stick to it, in the cyclinder.

Alex.

Had driver's side lock freeze a few times this year.

Used silicone spray into the barrel (stuck the nozzle into the slot)...worked well, and the keys didn't have a WD-40 taste.

Silicone also worked on the door rubbers that were sticking also.

I use a white spray grease from Autozone that works nice. It has a little red straw that fits right in the key hole.

The Ford parts guy said white grease is what Ford has in all the lock cylinders.

It worked on my stuck lock that Lock Ease would not free up.

How would you use powdered graphite

edit - I see it is the same material as pencil lead. interesting

I bought some graphite for a speedo cable that was binding, but now am out. So I knew graphite was the best but used what I had on hand. WD-40 and motor oil were candidates but I ended up putting anti-seize all over my key then inserting into the lock.
