Ordered a part for my car through their website, purchased it with my mastercard, received part and my order detail page - the order detail page contained my entire credit card number, 3 digit security code, and expiration date as well as which type of credit card it was - all in violation of the FACTA, I already ordered a new credit card.

"FACTA says credit and debit card receipts may not include more than the last five digits of the card number. Nor may the card's expiration date be printed on the cardholder's receipt."

sometimes I think it is less an idea of "Identity thieves targeting victims" and more about companies handing information over to people with bad intentions.

just a word of warning, once your info gets jacked there is no going back.... it's like reversing a rape, it doesn't happen - once your financial booty get's tapped you've been turned out for life.

already reported the situation to the FTC, not that it means anything...

Idiocy runs rampant.

In 1994 the local college insisted upon using my social security number (SSN) as my student ID that would appear on several documents, all readily viewable to assorted folks within the institution and stuff mailed to me.

I was nice, polite, logical and determined that that number not be used so as to deter identity theft.

The bureaucratic lackeys were appalled at my not toeing the line. Looks of outright disgust and mumbles not-so-nice comments were directed at me and within ear-shot amongst the bleating sheep lackeys of the bureaucratic structure that insists that we, the people, OBEY!!!!!!!!

A very common trait here in the cultural backwater.

However, I stuck to the proverbial guns.

Ended up in the semi-temple of the vice-prez of the college, an office outfitted with what appeared to be furnishings that likely cost a tremendous amount of taxpayer money.

The bureaucrat started off with the "talking down to the lowly commoner" malarkey but the babbling buffoon soon learned that a 38-year-old Coot (tm) is not all-that-accepting of buffoonery from a puppet of the yellow running dog imperialists.

Stating my case in a logical manner and mentioning the ever-increasing incidents of identity theft I simply demanded that any combination of alphabetical and/or numeric scribblings be used to identify me vice my SSN.

In return, I heard the typical spiel of how the college's system is the only method to be used.

Hmmmmm.......

Knowing that the "veteran's card" had worked with babbling bureaucrats in the past (very few of which I had confronted who had served in the military themselves) I mentioned my status and the various entities I may have to contact, informing them of why I could not enroll in a taxpayer-funded institution.

I then departed after stating I hoped to hear within a couple days the college was ready to comply with my logical practical request.

The next day the telephone giggled at me and the voice at the other end, dripping and oozing with obvious contempt, informed me that an identifying number other than my SSN was ready so as to allow my processing for admittance.

Victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they still hate me there.
