Donaldson oil filters

Never for an automotive application. They've got a premier hydraulic line that I'm going to use in an automatic trans application.

I'd put them at par with WIX and Baldwin. Same sorta distribution ..except Donaldson never had a NAPA to use as an outlet. Without NAPA and CarQuest, I'd think you would have a hard time picking one up on a Saturday morning for the weekend oil change.

I think some of the automotive applications can be had in the Endurance line. I had notions that the Endurance line was the automotive end of EaO filters that Donaldson did not produce due to sensible lack of consumer market penetration ..but Amsoil's niche marketing could work with.

The Donaldson part #'s for my cars are:
P550963
P502007
P502019
P550335
Wonder if they are any better than the Amsoil EaO's?

The top one is available thru Amsoil as a Donaldson filter.
The next 3 are available as an Amsoil EaO filter.
The Donaldson are not better than the EaO.

The way I read it, Wix appears to get the automotive part of Amsoil's distribution. Donaldson appears to be what pukes out of the application database for heavyduty applications. That is, if I look up your Honda ..a Wix and an EaO number will appear.

For example, a Honda Civic takes a Wix 51334 ..that's a P550162 in Donaldson. When you put that number into Amsoil's master cross ref appliation you get a Wix and EaO equivalent number out.

My master xref has a Donaldson Endurance section and a Donaldson Heavy Duty section. I can get Donaldson Duramax hydraulic filters but if I xref a common hydraulic filter (with Donaldson number) 51050 hydraulic ..that's what I get ..a Wix.

Donaldson filters are pricy. I have gotten some for Allison trans and the retail over $50 whereas a Wix or GM was less.

Donaldson makes a lot of OEM filters. For instance my air filter in my Cadillac CTS is made by Donaldson and packaged in an AC Delco Box. Their name and part number are embossed on the plastic portion. I tried to get that part number thru Amsoil but its never comes up as a available item. I also can't find any lookup for it or cross reference on Donaldson site.

Like this one here. I imagine that it's used on larger gas trucks.

Gary, that thar filter you're linking to is a synthetic FL1A equivalent... I've used 'em on my Exploder, F250 and my Kubota L3750.

Yes, it's a FL1A SYNTEQ Endurance filter. The point I was making is that you probably didn't get it at Pep Boys. It's not a consumer type filter ..but would/may be something a fleet operator would use in the Endurance line up. Since I don't know of any diesels that would use this filter (VW/Audi, maybe) ..it kinda lends itself to the larger gas engines of the Ford persuasion (pre-modular van fleet maybe). You probably either got it from a fleet/commercial service center ..or an internet place like fleetfilter that caters to the heavy equipment trade.

AFAIK, I can't order this through Amsoil. That's (probably) cuz the EaO15 is the same thing. FAIK, Wix may have made the automotive fitments for Donaldson since it's a very small part of Donaldson's product line (or so it appears).

The one you are linking to does not even list Ford

Does this discount the point (that I surely thought I was making) that it's not something anyone is going to find outside of a fleet/heavy duty/industrial/ag type service center or an internet sales based outfit that caters to the same sector?

I had a conversation with an guy from Pakistan. I said "Abdul killed 5000 people. He then said, "You disingenuous American DOG!! Abdul only killed 4736 people! Typical American liar!!

That is, he went on about how I expressed myself ..and managed to ignore that Abdul was a mass murder.

So, yes, you're correct. Your point?

Is it all that important to other people than Mori whether it's "then or than" if they have the ability to figure it out

Um, if you follow Gary's Donaldson link, the oil filter shown is a P169071, right? Read under the heading "Lube Filters Product Attributes," and there is a subheading called "Primary Application." There it is stated "HIGH EFFICIENCY VERSION OF P550008."

The P550008 is Donaldson's version of the FL1A, the standard Ford filter for years. Go to Donaldson's website, if you want, and go to "Cross Reference" and enter in "FL1A." You'll get P550008.

Of course, I am filter geek, so I know such trivia, and you can too, if you become obsessed with such stuff, like me.
