startup knock? I had been using Mobil 1 oil and the UPF52 for quite a few years on my 98 Chevy 5.7L and had started experienceing startup knock about 2 1/2 years ago.

Recently I switched to Chevron Supreme and used a regular AC-Delco PF52 filter. With this combo I had no startup knock.

Yesterday I changed the oil and used Chevron Supreme again and a UPF52 filter and today had startup knock. Is the UPF series filters alot more restrictive than the regular PF filters? If so, could this be causing the startup noise I'm hearing? Thanks for any ideas and does anyone have the flow rates of both of these filters?

I can only comment on my situation, but I have found that it does not cause any noticeable startup knock. I, however, am using it on the 3.1L 60v6 motor, not the 5.7L V8. Overall I am very happy with the filter.

However, if I were you and it were causing problems, I would probably toss it and use the filter that seems to work better for your car.

I have read on here that the UPF filters are the absolute best filters you can get! They flow extreemly well and filter down to like 5-8 microns at 99% effishent(spelling?). That is odd that it does it with this filter??? I'm just about to try the UPF44 on both my LS1 Camaro and 5.3 Silverado.
