Can't find this information anywhere. I believe I read somewhere that Prestone LowTox does contain silicates. Anyone know if Sierra contains silicates? I was thinking of use in a motorcycle and they spec no silicates.

I don't know if Sierra has silicates. You could ask Old World Industries and they would be able to tell you for sure. My guess is that it does. I know Japanese always caution against silicates but they do protect aluminum and probably gaskets well.

Do you have to use a propylene based anti-freeze for this application? If not, your best bet for a silicate free is probably Toyota red, the longlife not the super long life.

If you need a propylene based silicite free, I'm not sure, that's a tough one.

What is the specific requirements for this bike? If it were me I'd feel safer running even a silicated ethylene glycol than an OAT if it's not approved. The old stuff always worked fine as long as it was changed regularly.

I haven't been using a pg antifreeze, but I work on the cycle in a shed in the backyard where my dog also roams around. Try to be careful, but it seems like there is a possibility I might spill some and not notice or leave the drain pan out without thinking. The dog always seems very interested when I'm working on the motorcycle. On the other hand, it might not be so bad to poison my neighbor's dog...

I emailed Sierra. I'm impressed they responded so quickly. That alone would make me like their products. Here's the answer they sent:

Thanks for your e-mail. The Sierra Antifreeze does contain 250 ppm of
Silicate.

If you require a Silicate free coolant you may use our PEAK LONGLIFE, PEAK
EXTENDED LIFE, or PEAK GLOBAL LIFETIME ANTIFREEZE. All are Silicate free.

Here is the best PG non silicate coolant I've seen, Cummins ES Compleat HTF. It's available in premix and concentrate in both PG and EG. I might e hard to find but I maybe an HD service would have it.

Es Compleat HTF

Apparently it uses there DCA4 inhibitor SCA pack. Which is lower toxic and longer life than the other SCA.

I guess there's the Evans NPG Stuff (waterless pg coolant) at something like $39 per gallon. Some motorcycle guys rave about this stuff.

In general, do HD service coolants not contain silicates?

I'd say in general HD coolants contain low silicants since there is very little aluminum used, but most of the IAT HD's contain some silicants. Of course the OAT HD's don't contain any, but I didn't want to recommend one of them because of potential compatibility issues.
