Does (or did) people rotate round air filters

Way back when, the old round air cleaners would get dirty right where PCV gases are plumbed into the air cleaner. I used to rotate the filter to give the filter an even chance to get dirty. Now that I think about it, I should have left it alone.

Lol I did that on my 79 GMC back in the day. I'm sure I shortened the life of that truck by some of the dumb stuff I did to it.

I do it with the under hood filter on my semi truck. It gets changed at about 60,000 miles, I do OCI's at 20,000, so in between air filter changes, I rotate it 1/3 turn. In the semi's with under hood filters, there is little tolerance between the air filter housing and the filter. Just makes sense to rotate it occasionally.
