Does Homeowners Insurance Covers Main Sewer Line?

Nope, it will cover damage to the home caused by the line, but if the line itself is bad you're SOL. At least this is what my Insurance Broker told me. Maybe it varies by region.

I've never heard of a homeowner's policy covering this.

What issue are you having? Old clay pipe?

I feel for you. There's nothing cheap when it comes to this stuff, sewer or septic. I'm on my second home with septic.

Good thing for you is once you go with nice plastic pipe, you'll never have an issue again.

If the break is outside the house (between house and street, no coverage. If the line is under the house and the line cracks/breaks/collapses, digging up the floor to get to the pipe would be covered, but you would pay of cost of the actual pipe. This would be on a deluxe policy; confirm with your agent.
Similar situation: My bathroom tub drain line cracked and water went below to my kitchen ceiling. Insurance paid for tearing up the bathroom ceramic floor, removing toilet/sink and reset, new ceramic floor and plaster/paint to repair the kitchen ceiling. My out of pocket was the deductible and the cost of the new copper drain line.
General rule of thumb: sudden and accidental is covered; things that wear out are not.

You will have to read your policy. Policies pay different things based on the amount of premium paid, but in general do not cover any item that wears out due to age or normal deterioration.

Most people do not ever read their policies, and then yell that they thought they had "full coverage" or some such stuff.

I once heard one guy say that he thought people should be required to pay their premium only if they had a claim that was paid.
