Does G-11 equal traditional green antifreeze?

Going from a non-OAT system to an OAT coolant is a no-no. You can use silicated in an OAT system, but not the other way around. G-05 is the exception that proves the rule. Why someone would want Dexcool in their engine is another issue.

Funny, done all the time on older CAT enines with the switch to EC-1 Coolant (close kin of Dexcool). Only result that I know of was a dramatic drop in water pump failures (trending downward to 90% less after 1 year). I switched one at 122,000 mi and the engine/cooling system is still going strong at 800,000 mi +. This includes the original waterpump.

So for my 2L engined Golf which has traditional green antifreeze, do you think I should go with a dex cool product (no phosphate, no silicate) or the G 05 (low silicate, no phosphate) PLEASE name products!!! BTW Our cars have PLASTIC vaned water pumps, would this have any bearing on the type I should go with? I definitely would like a long life product....And about flushing out suggestions of what would be the best way how many times ect? You guys are great thanks for all the replys.

I'm not sure but you might be able to find a metal vane water pump. I know MkIV's have them, not sure about III's.

Zerex's site says G-05 for 96 and younger VW's, everything older gets the Dex-Cool clone.
