Does ethanol effect oil??

My jeep owners manual says to change the oil more often if using ethanol fuels .

I agree. A 5000 mile OCI in my Grand Caravan on strictly E85 will NOT turn the oil black. It comes out just a shade darker than when it goes in. I assume that is from less fuel soot, due to less carbon based fuel (gasoline) being used.

think about it. at 30MPG you are turning 100 tonnes of vegetation into 30 miles transport. how many miles does the world drive every day?

Also, in the same book, humans' energy consumption in 1 year is equivalent to the energy that was laid down over 500 years when the big oil deposits were being put down 200 million years ago. that is, 500 years of energy input is burned every year now.

Wow, we are really wasteful.

Isn't the state of California now rethinking the use of ethanol because it's not as earth-friendly as originally thought? I think I heard it on the news a few weeks ago.

Also consider the massive amounts of water necessary to produce a gallon of ethanol [at present technology].
2-3 at the plant to process, and 2,500-8,300 per gal ethanol to grow.

Now THAT's a scientific oil analysis. I like ethanol - but I would want my car cal'd to run 100% and not have the enthanol come from feed corn - rather biomass.
