Hi all, I was just wondering does anyone know of a lab in Australia, Queensland the Gold Coast Brisbane area that I could get some oil tested? And whats the rough sort of costings?

Thanks all.

Francis,
I've been using this crowd.
http://www.e-monitor.com.au/
Their basic test is just that, their lab is based in Brisbane, and I'm sure they would test for more things than is in their A$22.00 test if you asked nicely and pay for it.

Rick.

The other thing I forgot to mention is that the major oil companies can do this also. This is where the trucking and mining industries generally go.

Thank you so much Rick!

I don't really know to much about it all, but I was thinking if you sent up a few different samples of new oil and got a read out done, could you then compare which one has better stuff in it straight tout of the container?

One item I would over to try and find out is the HT/HS reading and the Zinc levels also.

Thanks heaps for that mate.

Francis,

I wouldn't use VOA (virgin oil analysis) results to determine whether I should use that oil in my car or not. It's practically impossible to predict how an oil will perform in your engine just based on that. However, it's still a good idea to have a VOA to be able to compare it to a UOA (used oil analysis) later on, just to see what part of it was wear, and what part was the oil itself, if that makes any sense.

Cheers,

Francis,

A VOA that had any meaningful data would cost heaps of money.

HT/HS etc should be available from the oil company concerned. In fact, most of the data you need to compare oils are availlable from the oil companies - they just don't make it publicly available. A few emails does the trick.

I use e-monitor as well, but to get all the info that is posted here, including a TBN, and water by FTIR (the cheapies do water by crackle), will cost you around $A35.

That is just too much money for me, so I just do the basic wear metals etc, no TBN for the $22.

I suppose if more people did UOA's, the price would come down.

Consider sending the oil to me and for $35 US you get the analysis with FTIR and my read. My Singaporan customers use the regular post and have had good response times considering. Pay vis Paypal or Check.

I will fire the response vis email to shorten the turn too!

You may use my interpretation for ANY labs tests for $ 20 US.
