I'm curious about this. They say those bypass filters will filter out particles as small as 1 microns
quite effectively, so won't this end up showing on an oil analysis as if you were getting almost
no engine wear at all, when in fact all those wear particles are in the filter?

A full flow filter filters out the particles above 20 microns (or larger). The analysis don't seem to be affected. Now the bypass removes particles from 3 micron and up. Those under that are still reported by spectroanalysis. They are just the particles smaller than 3 micron and still show the wear metals we are interested in. While the bypass is doing it's job, only the 3 micron and under are constantly circulating in the oil. With stacking occurring in the FF and the bypass alot of particles under 3 micron will be trapped also. Some bypass filters advertise filtration to 1 micron and under. I will take the advantages of a bypass and the extra filtration and extended drain, and the extra oil capacity.
