Dodge Hornets are dropping like flies.

What good is that "deal" if the the car has significant problems, and is made by a company with significant bad reputation, and a company owned by it's conglomerate that has a significant bad reputation?
Have you ever owned a Chrysler Jeep Ram or Dodge vehicle?

Hornet is an interesting vehicle that was badly marketed but that creates an opportunity for consumers to pick up a new vehicle in a time when many new vehicles - and make no mistake any decent new car will be a more reliable vehicle than a typical used vehicle - are very expensive. So this is an opportunity for people in the market who otherwise perhaps could not afford a new small SUV. (One of my favorite Warren Buffet quotes is that he gets fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful, suggesting that people who are sophisticated with money are often contrarians to market wisdom.). So rather than piss all over it, why not acknowledge that the situation creates an opportunity for people to get a new vehicle? And btw, in Europe you see the Alfa version of this thing all over so unless the average European consumer has taken leave of his or her senses, how bad could it really be?

I own a 4Runner. Probably most reliable vehicle ever made. But you know what? Not everyone wants a Toyota pre runner, Tacoma, 4Runner or Corolla. It’s a big world out there. Enjoy (what I guess you drive) your Toyotas, as it should be reliable given the what I almost would call crazy pricing that you see on their SUVs - they better be reliable at those prices. When I bought mine 10 or 11 years ago it was maybe 2500 bucks more than a Grand Cherokee, to take one competitor I considered. Today the transaction price is likely close to 10k, when you factor in dealer discounts. You can buy a lot of factory warranty for a fraction of that price. Is the Toyota that much more reliable? Not trying to argue but rather point out that there is an opportunity here for a smart buyer who is not reflexive with his or her opinions.

Nobody can get parts. Newer trucks sit for 6 months for things like alternators. In that time these newer cars are sold as they wait for parts and then go back up for sale when the part comes in. I’d still buy one because they are not much worse than any other new car except they less expensive. Drive them easy when cold if you want over 100,000 miles out of it.

Who are the idiots who keep buying Fiats? Fiat's reputation has been in the toilet each year they sold in the US. Who. Buys. These?!? Then there are the other BS Stallantis offerings...
I think you nailed the problem when you called the name “Stallantis”. I will use that to describe their offerings other that the full sized Ram trucks.

...most of the people buying it can't afford to maintain them, so they become unreliable.
Not the case in Europe. They are everywhere, they are maintained and they are still junk.

The problem is that they are a conglomerate which gets bailed out by the Italian government every time the fan gets hit, and they know they can't die.

Smart people don’t make blanket statements. 😉
Yes, and as if on cue, our perennial mid-wit is in here bashing his keyboard and flinging dung like an irascible monkey, furiously working to live-out your comment without even a glimmer of self-awareness, despite being recently involved in conversations where the importance of nuance has been pointed out to him repeatedly.

Worse than a man who has shown to be incapable of depth of thought is one who doubles-down on showcasing it, utterly oblivious to how this underscores and reinforces the perception of his limitations.

You cannot put lipstick on a pig, and then call it a beauty. The Smart Money would never buy such a vehicle, and I've been to Italy many times, and there, the most common opinion about Italian cars is that they are not so good...yes, many Italians think that, as many Americans think the same for most American models. Italian cars are money pits, and they are purchased out of emotion, not cogent reasons. We all should buy vehicles less out of emotion, more out of common sense.

You have offered nothing here other than more opinion without answering the question of whether you have owned a Dodge, Chrysler, Ram, or Jeep vehicle. I will take it you have not and you are yet another “internet reviewer.” That’s fine. Take care.

It went all the down to $20k... and then finally an opening bid of $18,600 this morning.

It sold for $24,100 a few minutes ago.

My hunch is that the pictures that had been online were outdated. I contacted the dealership that did the work and sure enough, they had everything done.

I could have put a bid in Thursday for the Friday asking price of $20,000. But I just don't like the complexity of these vehicles. One of the best realities of developing all the data with the Long-Term Quality Index is that it encourages me to hold off on certain transactions that are a 'good deal'. But are not in the interest of my customers over the long run.

Oh well. Guess I'm going to keep trying to hit 'em where they ain't. Speaking of which, I'm about to sell a 21 year old Camry with 127k that was a dealer queen for $5k. That type of deal in the rust-free capital of the South I am A-OK with.

Your authoritative persona radiates from your posts. Why do I have to answer your questions? You offer no ability to banter here. So here goes: no, I was never foolish enough to buy a Journey. Why would anyone do that?

Yeah, and your personna blanket-calling people idiots three posts in a row really radiates a smell of roses...

Funny how writing the short name for Richard still gets censored automatically on this forum, but insulting people by whole swaths is fine. What a disgrace.

My dad told me he is considering one of these based on what a guy on YouTube said. I’m like you do you but I hate working on anything that’s Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep etc. And I just don’t think it’s a good idea. I also hate the reuse names of classic cars.

Id swap a VW ALH diesel in it fully deleted and a freaking manual transmission.

The only Stillantis to make it over 200k miles w/o blowing up.
