I can't wait to see how this does in a shootout against other midsize "compact" cars. I bet it surprises a lot of folks!

Initial reviews are promising. Apparently there's an aerodynamics package available that will bring the 1.4T/6MT cars to 41 mpg highway with 20 hp and 36 more ft/lbs more than a stock Cruze Eco. They did pan the initial acceleration and the shifter, though.

I bet GM "finds" 20 hp and 36 ft/lbs in the Cruze's 1.4T to match Dodge.

I think the multiair will always have a slight advantage in HP and torque, all else being equal. I'm sure the Cruze SS won't be slow though! Where the multiair really shines though is in everyday driving, I drove a fiat 500 and it drives more briskly than its peak hp and torque numbers suggest. On paper its my Neon missing a cylinder but it pretty much drives the same except WO is quite a bit slower.

Yep. Multi-Air gives a flatter torque curve. It is alleged to work VERY well with boost.

I'm waiting for a MA V8!!!

I also have confidence the General will be able to keep up.

Either way, we have a compact car war underway now. About all the major makers have serious compact offerings available now. The buyer really can't go wrong with any compact car these days. There are offerings ranging from stripped out base model to mini-luxo-barge, and everything in between.

It's an exciting time to be shopping for a compact or smaller car.

I would agree and add that that goes for any car!

Turn up the wick on the turbo 4 instead. No point in shoehorning a DOHC V6 into a small engine compartment. I'll take a little turbo 4 and plenty of room to work over a large engine in a tiny engine bay.

No, no, no...stuff in a Pentastar, then turbocharge THAT!

Why stop there? Why not shoehorn the Viper V10 into it (turbocharged of course). Then add some 26" "dubs" and a Daytona spoiler with flames on the side...now we're talking!

My wife wants to go take a look at this thing before we decide on something for her. She has been stuck on the buick verano for months, maybe this will change her mind, lol
