Watch out Ford boys, Cummins is bringing out the 6.7 H.0 this fall with 800 lb ft of torque. I can't wait for that comparison. I'm willing to bet the Dodge will build more power at a lower rpm. 6 in a row and built to tow! Whoooooaaaaaah!

WOW!, imagine how much more HP you can get when you rip off the DPF's.

Six in a row, makes it go. There is nothing quite like a well built I6 or V12 for having an awesome powerband (says the guy who drives a V8).

The new Ford 6.7 is 100% unproven, they are starting from scratch. The 6.0 and 6.4 Powerstrokes were junk, as were the rest of the International engines.

I'd rather have an average chassis with a bulletproof motor, Dodge Cummins, over a great chassis with a junk motor, Ford Powerstroke. Design life to overhaul on the Cummins is 400,000 miles, with a lot of reports exceeding 500,000 miles. The Powerstroke is only designed for 200,000 miles.

I would definitely buy the 6 speed manual in the Dodge, as their auto tranny's are still garbage.

What do you need 800 foot pounds of torque for? Do not get me wrong this is nice but I rather have around 600 pounds of torque and have 5 MPG gain.

I'm happy for Dodge and Cummins.

The only thing I'm worried about is the moron who has no business towing 20,000 lbs in a truck passing me at 80 mph at night on a bad road.

IMHO the Big 3 got their butts in a sling when they kept trying to out-macho each other. And here we go again!

I love diesel technology. Why can't we see it a pasenger car, or a light truck with a turbo 4? My work's Pisten Bully has a Mercedes 4.2 4-cyl that makes 500 ft tq @1100 rpm. Seems ideal for a light truck. Or maybe something a little smaller that can get 25+ mpg... might be nice when diesel is $4+.

These are some serious fighting words. With a few basic reliability mods the 6.0 and 6.4 are excellent motors that, when properly maintained, will pull right there with the chassis for ages.

I'm no fan of Fords diesels, we had one 7.3 go to junk when the injector pump went out of time, and a Powerstroker that went down so often I can't even list all the ways here!

But some of my RV buddies have had good times with them so I must have just been lucky!

But I'm sure they don't build them to run only 200k miles, either.

I'll only say their durability isn't on par with the Duramax and Cummins, or they wouldn't be redesigning so often.

I don't think that the extra torque makes you sacrifice daily driven MPG. I might say that it could help MPG out by allowing the truck to accelerate to an efficient highway speed more quickly and with less strain on the motor.

The changes were mostly for emission reasons not durability.

I'll have to politely disagree. Your 6.9 is a way better engine in my opinion.

sw99, have you owned a newer Dodge truck? They are very well built. I've seen no problems with either of mine and they get worked hard...and maintained properly!

You have no idea what your talking about.

The 6.0 and 6.4 had their quirks but they are far from junk. The emission system was the biggest issue not the engines.

If you think the 7.3 powerstroke and the IDIs before it were junk your a fool! They were reliable work horses and there are tons of them still on the road disproving that they were "junk".

International makes some of the worlds best diesel engines! Had you actually seen or worked on the different makes of engines you might know this. I'm not just talking about the pickup truck engines either.

As good as the new 6.7 Powerstroke and the Durmax may be, more power from the Cummins B-series is always just a software change away. Because the bottom end has SO much reserve strength and the head is cast iron, its really in a different class of engine. Gale Banks can call it a "tractor engine" all he wants, but he's just mad because there's less market for his power enhancers for it than there is for the other two

I think there's also some headroom in the design of the latest generation Ram, also. We'll see how they do on the transmission, but now that Chrysler seems to be back on the track to new development and new engineering I think Ford and GM had better watch their backs again, much like the mid 90s when Dodge went from an almost non-player in trucks to grabbing a significant market share.
