To me, if he did not tell her the risks of being obese he should get in trouble.

You beat me to it, Oily. I would love to see a way that airlines could charge ticket price based on total weight of passenger plus luggage. That's only fair. I don't like fat people rubbing up against me on planes (or anywhere).

If the doctor wanted her return business, he should have told her it wasn't her fault she was overweight.

So not only she is chair of NAAFA, she's a Psychologist! It's not about motivation at first -it's about waking the sugar cycle addict up!!!!
On second thought, this is exactly how Americans prefer their dialogues on public issues. Well-meaning doctors speaking the truth v posturing, squirming politicians. Remember Dr. Kevorkian? Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders? Terri Schiavo...

Thing is, no one who's fat needs to be told that they are; they usually have mirrors, and are painfully aware of their size.

That is freaking rediculous. The woman is a lard asz and she knows it. Crap. SOME Fat people need to get a grip. If you Choose to be fat - FINE - but handle the comments from your MD like a human. In fact the logic is there - IF you follow that Fat Society's advice (cool to be a lardbutt) then why should you sue when your MD says you are freaking unhealthy and have a 6" coating of solidified fry oil around your barely ticking heart? You CHOOSE to be fat! In fact we should make biodiesel from your lard laden frame if you are over 350 and under 5' 7"!!

Obesity is a medical condition , it is not a lifestyle or fashion statement. As the son of a doctor, I get pretty sick and tired of hearing how people, who obviously know more than doctors because they diagnosed themselves on the internet, tell health professionals how to diagnose or communicate to patients.
If he broke the news to her (that she's too fat) gently, or not at all, and she later died as a result, I'm sure her family would later sue the doctor as well. ****ed if you do, ****ed if you don't.
Thank god can't be sued for this kind of c r a p in Australia. We'll file this away in the "only in America" folder.
Offending from being an obese is what contributes to a poor social acceptance for the fat people. National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance should criticise the offending lady.
Well, physicians have to be "professional" with patients but they may round the corners to keep them happy?? I think a deeper problem of this age is that no one regards the profession anymore. Profession should say it directly. If one have problem with this, shouldn't ask the service.
