Do you need to use a fuel system cleaner?

While this video focuses on Toyotas, the findings and opinions presented in the video are applicable to many, if not most, or all, ICEs. The one thing that stands out for me is that in many instances a mechanic or tech will suggest a fuel system cleaning rather arbitrarily. In this case, the tech looks inside the combustion chamber before making a decision about using a cleaner and has a basis for his decision.

 
Induction service is different than fuel system cleaner. Most MPI engines do not need an induction service if top tier fuel is used or a bottle of techron every OCI, GDI most definitely does. Either way on high mileage engines (100k+) an induction service is not a bad idea. Just like with regular spark plug changes, a fuel induction service prevents issues down the road. I'm sure as heck not going to take a customers engine apart to borescope it prior to recommending an induction service, especially if there is a whole bunch of stuff in the way like an intake manifold.
