Do you have a favorite fuel?

For my Civic my favorite fuel is Costco 87. Usually the cheapest by a big margin at the location that is two minutes from my girlfriends place (the one near my own place is almost always 3-4 cents a liter more)
For my Corvette my favorite fuel is Shell 93, I especially love all of the deals that Shell offers on their app (I was getting 22 cents a liter off during baseball season for instance!) and since they offer a lot of bonus Air Miles deals I have gotten $80 worth of free gas from them just in the last 6 months. Shell claims that their 93 keeps engines extremely clean as well so that is something I hope is more than just marketing.

JP-7 i like to go fast. Once a mental hot rodder always a mental hot rodder at least in spirit.
I’ve been Mach 2 on JP-5, which is pushing the limit of the airframe. The fuel isn’t really a factor in limiting the speed.

It’s a matter of heat.

Heat increases by speed to the 4th. I think. Been a while. Dynamic pressure increases by speed squared, but heat? Oh, my heat increases an an incredible rate with small increases in speed.

The JP-7 is all about flashpoint to take the heat. It has the same energy as JP-5, but when heated to several hundred degrees, it won’t flash off, it’s missing all of the lighter fractions, and it is very expensive as a result of all that extra refining.

So, JP-7 won’t help you go any faster unless the airframe itself can take that heat…

I liked the, plane that used it. I went to Beal Airforce years ago and the guys showed me the SR71 and yikes I fell in love. My first thought when seeing it in real life was that looks like what Batman would be flying.

I know…I was hoping I could throw a bit of JP-7 in the F-14 and go faster…and, in fact, the jet would run on just about anything in the family, JP-4, JP-5, Jet-A, all of it.

The JP-5 was formulated with a higher flashpoint than JP-4 just for fire safety aboard ship. If the jet was filled with Jet-A or JP-4, you could not bring it aboard, unless special permission was obtained from the ship (where the CO could waive any policy in the interest of operations or safety).

I was just having fun. with the JP 7 and redid the post to be more complete. As my dear friend Adele would tell me on a regular basis and it stills rings true " Steve you are so stuuuuuuuupid"

After a little over a year driving my 535d back and forth to work, 90 miles round trip, I've found that Circle K diesel gives me at least +1mpg vs Racetrac diesel. The Racetrac pumps have stickers stating their diesel may contain up to 20% biodiesel. The Circle K pumps do not have this, so I'm assuming this is why my 535d gets better MPGs with the Circle K diesel. I now fuel up my car and the wife's X3 only at Circle K, and since I have my Circle K rewards card linked to my debit card, I always get a $0.15/gallon discount.

Agreed. When all your cars take premium, and it is 20-30¢/L cheaper, plus it is still Top Tier.
Costco premium isn’t as cheap in Canada as before though. Even just a year ago they used to price their premium at about 12 cents above their price on 87. Now it varies wildly but it is anywhere between 20 to 30 cents more. With the deal I was getting on Shell premium here this summer it ended up being cheaper AND is 93 octane (my Corvette calls for 93, and it really can only use 91 in the cold weather)

Just this summer I had to stop at a Shell because I was sucking fumes. Put in $5 to get me to Costco. Costco was literally 28¢/L cheaper. No amount of discounts would make that even.

That’s not the difference I’m seeing in my area. As mentioned, I was getting 22 cents a liter off anytime during the baseball season when the Jays were playing at home. Combined with getting $80 in free gas from Air Miles meant I definitely saved money. I frequently use a Shell station on Highway 6 that is usually only a few cents more than Costco and sometimes they have price wars along the stretch where it ends up lower than Costco.
The problem with a lot of Shell stations in Ontario is that some of them charge 40-42 cents more for 93 than they charge for 87. The ones that I use most are in the 32-36 cent spread so that makes a big difference.
