Do you guys like Latin Freestyle Music ???

Hey guys,

I was wondering if some of you guys like or remembered some or all of the Latin Freestyle Hits from the mid to late 80s and early 90s? Latin Freestle was exteremely popular in LA, Miami, New York, New jersey, The Bronx, Texas, and other places. This particular era started around 1982 and fully reached the peak in 1990 before dying out completely in 1994 due to the ongoing Hip-Hop and Rap junk coming out including the upcoming boys and girls groups of the 90s. I wished this partiucular kind of music would come back into the industry and play on the air today for kids to fully appreciate and understand what good dance and club music really is.

Hey guys, Latin Hip-Hop, Freestlye or technically "Latin Freestlye" was a form of underground Hip-Hop from the local Latino communiites that emerged right after the death of Funk and Disco in the early 1980s. This new era of music was made popular in clubs and hangouts around 1984 and continue on over the next 10 ten years before dying out in 1994. Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine is not a Freestlye group or artist in any shape of form. I will list some popular Freestyle artists from back in the day.

Males: Gaeorge Lamond, Stevie B., TKA, Johnny O, Collage, C+C Music Factory.

Females: Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, The Cover Girls, Expose, Sweet Sensation, Shannon.

Somewhat, Reggaeton emerged right after Freestyle died in 1994. Freesytle music used drum programming, extensive bass sounds, extensive synthesizers use, guitars, etc...

You left out Linear (one hit wonder). I wouldn't call C&C Music Factory's music Latin Freestyle. I would call it dance-techno-rap.

Hey Tonycarguy, thanks for reminding about Linear. That one-hit song definitely kicks ***. C+C Music Factory was involved in the Freestyle days but it was mostly production, management, and songwriting done by Robert Civillies and David Cole for the The Cover Girls (Because of You, My Heart Skips A Beat), Seduction(My One and Only True Love, Heartbeat) and a few other artists of the day.

I listened to a lot of that and never heard them described as "latin free style". Just thought of it as "pop".

Hey Tempest, Back in the days, radio stations and the music industry would list the artists and songs as Pop, House, Dance, R&B, AC and Soft Rock in one form or another. Today the genre is definitely known by the proper name "Freestyle" by everyone including the Latino communities. "Latin Freestyle" is what latinos in the hoods/projects were calling it back in the day when it first came out in 1984.

You got that right GMBoy, I hate it when my brothers take away the computer and listen to Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, and all the other son of a ******* of today. I have to fight to get the computer back so I can listen to all my Old School and Freestyle hits. It so sad today that kids are forced into listening to ******** music today.

Sad thing is that it started pretty good. Tone Loc, Young MC..even Run DMC and Kid @ Play. Then the gangsters got a hold of it.

Yeah, Tempest Old Skool Hip-Hop and Rap used to be so good with artists like Run DMC, LL Cool J, MC Hammer, Will Smith and Jazzy Jazz, Rapper Delight, etc. When East Coast Hip Hop and West Coast G-Funk started kicking in the early 1990s, all good artists were overshadowed and pushed back by the new gangsters and thugs of the day such as 2Pac, Coolio, Dr. Dre, Biggie, Big L and many more which all of them would go on to completely screw the music industry up with money, greed, vilence and corruption.
