Do dealers automatically do updates when

Are people confusing TSBs with (mandatory) recalls ? My understanding of TSBs are that they are common problems with specific vehicles and the automaker publishes a document for quicker diagnosis and repair when a customer reports the issue. If the customer says nothing, they're not going to voluntarily "fix" something that isn't broke.

Even with a recall, if a customer is in for something else, yeah, they better mention it but how often are they going to do the repair right then (unless the customer okays it) ?

I was at the Ford dealer who sold me my truck, getting a bedliner put in. I hung out in the parking lot and watched a guy select cars, open the hood and start them. About 10 minutes later he hooked a hand held to the ALDL on each car, one at a time. He worked around 15 cars while I waited. I just had to know so I asked him what he was doing.
He said they check every new car on the lot to see if there's any updates for it, then do them. Said every car they sell new has the most recent update, helping customer satisfaction surveys.
I don't know if the 11 month old 2018 I bought new there had any updates done but I suspect so. All the maladies that supposedly plague the F150, 10 speeds, engines etc, (according to the forums) mine doesn't have them. It runs like a top. Small town dealer, maybe 100 cars on the lot.
Pretty cool!

rookies do the simple stuff like oil changes hence the issues from them! do your own cheaper with better spec oils if in warranty + keep records + receipts, use the $$$ for "refreshments"!!
