Do Chevy engines like thicker oil?

It seems, to me at least, that GM engines like a thicker oil. Instead of a 5w30 using a 40 weight oil seems to run smoother and quieter in them. Is it just me?
Any input would be great!

I assume you mean V8 and not 4 cyl like the 1.4 or 1.8, 2.3 etc?

In my experience with Chevy V-8s the brand was more prone to noise than the grade.
What I mean is that,for example,my 5.3 runs quiet on any Pennzoil conventional grade but when I used M1 every grade I tried increased the acoustics of the motor.
When I was younger I had vehicles with 305's and 350's and I never noticed any difference in noise from going a grade thicker or thinner than specified,unless it was nearing the bitter end and I was adding a couple quarts of Lucas to slow the burning and banging.

Not true, use the 5w30 that it comes with, in the hot summers I will use 10W30 sometimes just to use up some of my stash..lol..Back in the 70`s u could use 20W50 in the 350 & 454 chevy motors no problem.. times have changed

They don't need it but I think they like thicker oil, but the recommended 5w30 is thicker than many makes use nowadays. When ran hard and hot I think all engines like thicker oil and can run a tad quieter. The problem is most 10W40 isn't that great, 15W40 isn't ILSAC cat convertor approved, and 20W50 is just to heavy. Maybe a high viscosity index 5W/10W30 or High Mileage oil would be the ticket.

I ran 10w40 in my old Sunfire for years, beat the [censored] out of it almost every day as soon as the temp gauge came off its peg, seemed to work.
