DIY catch can material?

Havent verified but read in forums awhile back that the Husky has alot of plastic vs the Cambell Hausfield PA2121 is mostly metal. The petcock looks plastic so perhaps they used to be metal.

Something like the above is great for oil but no the PCV gasses. Very little of what goes through the PCV valve is actual oil, unless the engine is poorly designed.
 
Compressor air separators could be a good starting point. The filter would have to be taken out, replaced with a center tube, baffles, steel wool, etc. But the idea of a shell is sound. If only there was a larger one...
