being a cheap #@$%!, i was looking for a way to control my ceiling fan automatically. when i sleep at night i sometimes wake up hot, have to crawl out of bed to turn the fan on. and go back to sleep. later i may wake up cold and again crawl out of bed to furn the fan off or adjust its speed.

i saw at home depot there are fans that have remote controls, wow they are sure nice, but expensive! i wanted to do one better, and keep my existing fan to boot. i scrounge through my box of junk and found an old fashoned analog air conditioner tempature control thermostat. 9the kind with a bi-metal strip). i screwed this in next to the ceiling fans rheostat on the wall and wired it into series with the rheostat.
i still have to control the fan speed with the rheostat, but the temparture at which it turns on and off is now fully automatic. plus i have the fan-on-heat switch if i want to override it.

last nite i slept great.

So is that AC thermostat rated for 120VAC?

Lots of them are only good for 24 or 30 volts, so apply this theory carefully kiddies.

Cool! Literally.
