Dishwasher help

I have a 10 year old GE Triton dishwasher.

The water seems to be draining out during the wash cycle.

1. pre-rinse: works fine, water fills and rinse cycle works
2. wash cycle: starts off fine, then the water magically drains out and either the system does not switch over the next cycle or does not sense that the water is low. It literally steams (heater??) out of the door.
The tablet soap is barely melted.

I checked the foat switch, I cleaned the drain valve area.
The washer will work fine once and then same curd again.

Any ideas guys?

I've never had a dishwasher last 10 years. Fixing it might be an exercise in frustration.

I suspect the timer if mechanical or circuit board if electronic.

Might be time for a new dishwasher when you find out the cost of a new circuit board.

Yep, I replaced a heatpump when it took a $500 circuit board (the freon was expensive also, and it was 13 years old).

You won't believe how quiet and good the new dishwashers are!

Ok I hear you, time to say goodbye to the GE.

We barely used it for years as ex-wife ate out nearly all the time.

I am going to strip off the motors and solenoids.

I shall go and get a new one.

What do I do with the old washer?

Typically there's a solenoid fired diverter valve in the system that allows the pump to either recycle water through the system or push water out the drain. Sounds like it's hung open, allowing both to happen (for awhile). Hard debris stuck in the valve maybe?

I would look into it. Some manufacturers have tech help lines. When you find whats wrong then you price it and decide. But get ready for a new dishwasher if needed.

We recently downgraded to a "NOS" GE from the mid-80's. What a tank; loud, heavy, gets too hot. They don't make em like they used to.

Still using my Maytag from 1988. Had to replace the door seal as the runner got rock hard with age

Recycle the old washer at your local landfill (appliance recycle area).

Search for a "Used appliance dealer" if you can. They may pay you a few dollars even if it doesn't work. There is a good deal of scrap metal that can be recycled.

I once had a GE dishwasher that started leaking after about 9 yrs. I bought a new Maytag JetClean to replace it. That was 24yrs ago. No repairs since.

The old (Hobart and earlier) KAs were the best American models. Big bulletproof tanks that ran forever.

Now, it's hit and miss. Ten years old, they're not worth serious repair. Dump the GE. Presently enjoying a Bosch that does a good job after 3 yrs.

Rediscover phosphates. Today's grocery store detergent is wretched. Half the time, that's the problem.

Sorry Volvo, don't have zee coins for Bosch, bought a whirrrlypool fro lowes with their 4th july appliance sale. $359 out of the door for a $5xx model.

just uninstalled the old GE, have to drink a cup of coffee and haul the new guy up the stairs to the kitchen (I have a raised ranch).

FYI: I use the tablet dish washer things from costco.
