Yes they do, but the video speaks for itself despite the source, IMO.

That test hit work the other week.

Everybody coming out of the woodwork, and complaining "You told me that M1 was a decent oil", and "where can I get RP ?" had me tearing my hair out.

Years ago, when commissioning an MDF factory (which has some really wonderful lubes), the timken test grease salesman came calling and asked to see our best grease...then sooked and cried foul when I did.

How the [censored] does this thing keep popping up ? I am a subscriber to their magazine and forum and i swear that they followed up the test admitting it was not the best way to test the oil. Only Royal Purple tested that way and Royal are a sponsor of that mad and give them oil to give away as prizes, but most of their ads are Valvoline, Nulon and Mobil and Castrol Magnatec in generally quite pushed oil in the magazine and forums. They followed up, i will post it here with what they said. Motul, Shell etc came to the party to follow up and explain the test. Remember the guys who did the initial test may have been advised incorrectly and are Car enthusiast, not scientist.

All depends on where you buy it. If you buy a name brand synthetic like M1 in 5qt bulk jugs at Wal-Mart then RP is expensive when price tags are compared. Especially when you use RP prices from parts stores like AZ, AAP, PB's, Napa, etc... where it is ridiculously priced upwards of $9-$10+ a qt.

However, If you shop around and find a place that sells it for a reasonable price( not that hard really )compare that individual qt price for RP vs those name brands in individual qts too, even at places like Wal-Mart, and you can get RP for only slightly more, the same, or less a lot of times. You just have to look around and price shop locally or even on the internet.

I get RP for $6.25-$7 p/ individual qt locally( used to be as low as $5.75 but the price went up recently - darn ). M1, Pennzoil Platinum / Pennzoil Ultra, VVL, QS all are in the $6.70-$7+ range in individual qt bottles. IMO RP is a superior product to those name brand oils. I will gladly pay a little extra p/ OC( vs buying 5qt bulk bottles at Walmart )to use what I feel is a better product.

Comparable oils would be Amsoil, Redline, Schaeffers, etc... IMO anyway the GRP III based name brand oils( Mobil, Pennzoil, Valvoline, Quaker State, etc... )are not comparable to the premium oils like RP and the others. However, If RP or one of those others are just too $$$ for you then any of the name brands mentioned will do a decent job. I like Kendall GT1 full synthetic( $5 a qt at PepBoys )if I were to run a Grp III oil.

Thank you for the responses. I know most parts places are bad for oil prices (annoyingly) but i don't really have any options i'm aware of other than wallys world.

If i knew of any, that'd be a starting poing, but you're right, when i'm picking up M1 for 4.50/qt and RP *IF* i can find it at parts stores is ~$9/qt then there is little comparison.

Interesting concept. I am sure oils like Mobil 1 and SHell Helix Ultra are better than Royal Purple ? RP charge too much for that dye they add in.
