Discount Tire is the best

If I patronize my nearest DT I can combine the trip with a visit to the Asa Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe / Mount Chunk, PA.

Mr. Packer's racket was a wholesome one. I recommend the tour of his house.

I've only had one snafu with DT and it was recently. I decided to utilize their 30 day money back guarantee (tire swap not full refund) and the gentleman put in all kinds of numbers and came back to me and said it would cost me $400 to get into a different set of tires. Mind you, these tires were almost $1,000 less than the originals I had purchased. Said there was nothing he can do and this is because of the pro-rating. A call to corporate and 10 minutes later the store called me to make it right. Got in the new tires and was refunded almost $800(install fees etc). Initially wasn't handled well but in the end worked out just fine.

I have had enough good experiences with them, that I'll keep on going there.

I've been losing air in my LF tire for months monitoring it using the TPMS readout in the gage cluster and topping it off with my garage compressor. I've also had to add air to the LR occasionally. Found a bolt in the LF so took it to DT, made an appointment for 12:45 PM and had them check both tires. Turns out both had punctures. They repaired and rebalanced both for no charge and had me out in under an hour. Keep in mind these tires were not purchased at DT (this was my dad's car and at the time DT wasn't in the area he lives). This is why I will only buy tires at DT, always a great experience.

I would have tipped tire tech $20 for his time.

Over 20 years of purchase and service including tire warranty/prorating experience with DT, fwiw concur with your opine. Biggest change I've seen since the start, an appointment is now basically a must if one doesn't want an extended wait time. As an aside had my first alignment done at DT last week. They put it on the rack, get readings/print out, show the customer what if anything needed. Then let customer make the call on going ahead with adjustments. I'd add in my experience, the individual store manager/management can make a difference in satisfaction level.

They are not the best.
1. A lot of tire shops will do a free fix. That is how they make you think they are the "best."
2. If I had $1 for every time they forgot to put TPMS on a tire, not knowing the difference between all-season and snow tires, and trying to push all-season or all-weather because "it is the same." Also, pushing one certain product. When I was purchasing tires for the Sequoia in April, for summer driving, I went to get Continental TerrainContact H/T. The guy pretty much did not want to listen; he was adamant to sell me Pathfinder "whatever" or nothing. Trying to convince me that Pathfinder is made by Hankook, which is the same as Continental (that was the point I lost patience). I just walked away, went to Costco got Defender's.
3. DOT is all over the place. Unlike Costco which always gets tires few months old (I once got from Costco tires week old) DT wants to push old stuff, then arguing over it etc.
4. I still buy some novelty stuff I want to try, just bcs. Costco does not carry. But if Cstco carries, I don't even think about it.

I order all my tires (online) to my store - book an appointment …
No sales pitch that way …

Since mentioned above, two of my last three DT tire purchases done completely online. Purchase at DT site, pay with my DT CC, book appointment. EZ Peazy. DT card gets me 6 months no interest payment, and many times like now 5% back on purchase over minimum amount.

I do that with Costco or DT if immediate discount.
However, Continental has $110 mail in rebate. When I was getting DW06+ local DT guy just override it and applied that to OTD.
Being DT, completely new crew, couldn’t even come to that part to calculate price.

Enticed by this thread, I went to their website.
There I learned the nearest DT is ~80 mi. away with two more at ~90 mi.
I called the Help Number and asked about services like flat fixing and mileage warranty claims.

The very alert sounding rep told me they bought TireRack and that they ship tires to them but offered no such services.
She then continued speaking in an unclear manner which left me confused.
All I could do was end the conversation.

However, in light of your praise, I called the number again and see if the message changed.
I got another alert sounding rep who affirmed that all I could do is buy from TireRack (which they, DT, bought) and go about whatever mounting steps I had to but I'd get no services.
When I asked if a plain "online order" would cost less than one done at a brick and mortar shop, he said he had no idea.

I have no doubt DT gave y'all great service. The conversation with the reps left me flat.

They price match and the prices should be the same minus the installation costs at the brick and mortar store. Think they ship free where Tirerack used to charge shipping at least before they were acquired by DT.

Yep, I go to one in a smaller town - likey just big enough to have one.
Much less crew turnover at that store …

Discount Tire has been very good to me. They’ve made a few mistakes, but it’s all worked out in the end. I can drop off a car at lunch time at the one by my work, and go to lunch with a coworker. By the time I’m done with lunch we can swing by and pick up my car. Can’t count how many times I’ve done this.

The Walmart by my work is actually surprisingly good too. I had them put tires on the Genesis and Sonata, I’ll have them do the Lexus too. Can’t get those Kumho LX Platinum tires anywhere else, and they’re a 10/10 if you ask me.

I'm a HUGE fan of DT! And I am hard to please but DT goes over the top and its the simple things like a big window across the back so I can watch the shop, last NON DT shop I used damaged my $1200 wheel and said I did it! I want to watch my cars being serviced and have the right IMO, other places will actually cover a window so you can't see the shop!
DT FIVE stars!!!

DT has always done well for me, took a tire in with a slow leak losing 4-5lbs per week. I used soap suds on it looking for bubbles and thought it was the valve seat to the rim. They dunked it and found a weak seal around the bead. Some aluminum corrosion from OE paint wearing off on the aluminum. They cleaned it up with a wire wheel or similar tool so it would seal again all at no cost.
