And this is why the cost of a new car battery has basically doubled in the last couple of years. Kill the battery and then exchange it? Yet the same posters are complaining when the cost of a new battery keeps going up. If you ran a business and somebody did that to you, would you be happy?


His battery is leaking and if acid gets on the terminals over time it will ruin them to. Walmart is being stingy they have the financial means to handle replacing a defective /failed battery. The reason batteries are so expensive is partly because the process to get the materials to make them.

Sounds like you should get an accurate handle on charging voltage in all conditions.

Wire some test leads to the battery (fused on positive) and bring along an accurate meter. High charging voltage will make a battery do this- say above 14.9v or so. JHZR2 will know better than I though.

It often depends on who is working the returns desk.

+1 on the real possibility of overcharging OR someone thought to top-up the electrolyte and overfilled the cells.
I would hope we had more class than to try to be a criminal by cheating the dealer. No excuse what ever for that IMO. Ed

This is why i pay extra for agm batteries. They dont gas under normal conditions.

Ps. Some baking soda will neutralize the acid but you didnt hear that from me
