I'm going to buy conventional oil tonight for tomorrow oil change. I'm thinking maybe I should get the syn blend because it's going to winter now (Tennessee). But I have Mobil 1 Syn left about 1 q, may be I should blend it with the conventional. Should I blend it with 1 q syn and 3.5 conventional? (Accord 05 4cyc).

Thanks,

2005? Just buy enough of the appropriate viscosity.

As the saying goes....if you have to ask...maybe....oh I hate that saying. Your car is fairly new. Don't mess around with blending your own.

It can be done, but now is not the time.

Buy the syn-blend -- then add the quart of synthetic you have. That will put your synthetic mix closer to one-third.

That's a nice robust mix there.

Mobil 1 bottles used to say "compatible with regular oil" on the back panel. I don't know if new bottles say it so check that and then decide if you want to mix.

Just in case you haven't bought the oil yet, a good blend is Valvoline Durablend.

You can blend any amount you desire. For the best winter protection, you can go all synthetic. Install synthetic now and run it 7000 miles or one year which ever comes first.

Or the simplest way is to throw in that left over bottle of synthtic you have with whatever conventional (or blend) oil you buy.

Seems I recall Pep Boys has QS and Pennzoil synthetic on sale with coupon through 11th for about $1.99 after rebate.

Synthetic blends can have as little as 10% syn. The Conoco oils are said to have at least 60% Group III (Pretend Syn

).

In my opinion and experience as well as observing many other posts where peeps blended syn/non syn: It's not gonna' hurt a thing and probably fortify your dino base. Again..just a personal opinion.

I,m not trying to highjack this but how would one compare mobil5000 to tropartic ,are they pretty much equal other than price? Just courious. thanks
