..in price.

Kinda figured things were heading this way. In the last last year or so, they've been creeping up a few bucks. Walking through wal mart...I noticed:

ST 5qt-13.78 QSAD-14.88 PYB- 15.98 VWB- 16.98 GTX -18.98

And suddenly with the syns: ST-20.22 QSUD 20.57 PP- 22.98

Suddenly the costs are creeping closer...

Could be be possible we might just see dino end up as some sort of a syn blend to justify the price?( Marketed as) I mean a few bucks difference between QS bottles? (Used to be 8-9 bucks difference)

Your thoughts?

Keep in mind I'm looking past the sales/deals at the moment...looking more at a off the shelf comparison..

Rumors are that the current dinos are syn blends in order to meet the more stringent API SN spec.

That rumor is to justify a price increase..but the only thing thats true is there is a price increase.

One thing's sure....oil prices will never go down.As specs increase, even if crude was to drop in value, the added technology of newer oils and additive costs (not to mention bottling, environmental concerns, and warehousing and shipping costs) will guarantee that we have seen the cheapest oil prices....ever.

The conventional here is still the same price it has been for awhile. Starting with ST at $12.53 and Havoline at $13.38 (not positive about the change on that one).

Synthetics have been the same as Michigan for awhile.

Makes me want to go to the dealer and pay $53.97 for 3 oil changes. Comes out to $17.99 for 7 Quarts Mopar/Pennzoil (Hemi) and a Mopar Filter.

Right on

I tried that at my local Dodge dealer.....but they wouldn't "honor it" cause my vehicle is so old (88 Dodge Aries....) I was like [censored]? It still takes a standard spin on 3614 equivalent filter, and 4 qts. of motor oil.......don't make sense......but yea.....last time I will go there....for oil changes anyway.

Sad when the lube changes are better than DIY ones...

Unlike fuel prices, retail shelf prices for motor oil lag crude oil prices by many months.

If there was a sustained drop in the price of crude, shelf prices would come down, eventually..

The oil change deals offered at dealers and such are loss leaders to get you in the door then try to upsell you into further maintenance and/or repairs. No doubt their oil is purchased in bulk at wholesale.

WM tried selling at those prices around here. I guess people just did not buy enough because prices went to 12.88 for Mobil Clean 12.98, OSAD, 13.24, PYB, VWM, and 14.98 for GTX.

So the point being buy your oil some place else maybe WM will lower the prices back.

If you are price sensitive on this, then it's easy to just pick up oil when there is a rebate several times a year. It's got a long shelf life so there should never be a reason to ever buy oil at full price.

even my regular oil we get in the drums went up i just informed my distributer that if he cant supply us and 24 other shops that buy with us as a group we all Will go elsewhere. He called the same day and left a message that he found something "better" at a good price i will call him tomorrow

I would be throwing my warranty away if I did that.

That is the reason I am considering droping synthetic from the shelf once my stash is gone and run nothing but dino...since its rumored to be a blend...a blend of what anyway?

I wish our regular prices were around that, except for the GTX, which is usually cheaper up here. Aside from that, at least up here, unless it's a rollback, Walmart is one of the worst possible places to buy oil, except, perhaps, the gas station. Even then, the Flying J in Saskatoon sells PYB in the 5L jug at $8 cheaper than does Walmart.

If it weren't for rollbacks, I'd never buy oil from Walmart, or Canadian Tire, for that matter. Their regular prices are absolutely atrocious.

Oil is cheaper at my Walmart than at the auto parts stores unless there is a rebate.

Here, Walmart regularly gets spanked. Not all the parts stores, of course, are cheap. But, it is very easy to find a regular priced bottle of oil elsewhere that is much cheaper than the same bottle at Walmart. They do have frequent enough rollbacks, though, that I'd have to be pretty desperate to pay them their regular price on oil. Pretty much all the conventionals are within a buck or two of each other there, and at around $24 for a five litre jug. Under $20 is the norm at a lot of the hardware and farm supply stores, and that's without even doing any hunting.
