I suspect it would make a difference only on cold start at extremely low temperatures, where the 0W's pour point depression might be helpful.

Agree, that at 210F any 20 weight will be almost the same watery stuff then a 40 weight. The difference is minimal. 8Cst to 12Cst even though is 50% thicker, but that's teh same as comparing a nothing to a tiny amount, they're little anyway. And 12Cst is pretty soft watery stuff already. Salive at room temperature is 12Cst.

I am still itching to try the 300V 0W-40 Trophy in the summer, and would, except for the many tuners (mostly Scoobie, and Bimmer people) I have spoken to who have used it and were NOT impressed with it, claiming they had better results from Red Line, at close to HALF the cost
