difference between ATF and Power Steering Fluid?

hi,

my power steering system fluid specs tells me to use atf dexron ii or better. if i were to use power steering fluid (not atf), what would the pros/cons be? don't consider the price here. just the feel of the difference.

The mere fact that you change it will be better.

Either will work well. The newer synthetic Dexron or a synthetic power steering fluid will be better and give better performance.

To some degree (perhaps a larger degree) they are the same. Still I would go with what the manufacturer says. Back in the 70s, we always put Type-F ATF in both the automatic transmission and the power steering of Fords.
