diff cover rtv

Just avoid the clear, and get an automotive type.
CLEAN the surfaces really well, then apply your RTV, let it set a minute, then assemble.
LET IT CURE before filling/using.! GM Right Stuff can be put in service rather quickly, but RTV needs time, esp in the cold.
 
actually the clear GE type 2 silicone works very well....

its not a sensor safe RTV tho so I would only use it on things like transmission and differentials

I normally just keep ultra grey and put it to use on everything, although I would like to try the new diff RTV by permatex, I can never find it locally..... oh well
 
actually the clear GE type 2 silicone works very well.... its cheap as [censored] and works good on big jobs or when I do a lot of work over a day.
