Diesel synthetics

I think I have seen UFA stations before. Where are they generally located? I can't remember seeing any here in Edmonton. Is that the best place to buy XD3? Relatively inexpensive there? So XD3 is definitely a true synthetic? PAO/group 4? Delvac too? They are both the same company as well? I apologize for all the redundant questions, but I want a TRUE synthetic for my 06 cummins, and it is quite misleading when many of these brands of syn say they are a "full" synthetic.
Where do you live in Saskatchewan? That province is where I woud like to retire actually. I love Saskatchewan.

Hello D-Roc,

I was reading that the 05 Cummins does not re-circulate the exhaust gas to lower emmisions but uses electronically controlled fuel pumps and waste gate on the turbo plus pre-injects a small amount of fuel on the compression stroke to lower exhaust gas temps and engine noise. This reults in a cleaner engine with over 50 less components. I'd love to check it out. Retire in Saskatchewan?If you are from Sask. Mobil Delvac 1 is the Pilsner of diesel oils.

Cyprs has posted some good information. Do a search of Cummins here, and see what others are using. I hear your engine produces good wear numbers with almost any oil. 5-40 D1, Schaffers 5-40, and Esso are all great oils IMO. Your probably not going to stick with just one oil for the life of your truck, so pick your choice for the first go.

I wouldn't be too concerned with using an oil with some group III in it, the total package is what counts. Keep your drain intervals reasonable and you shouldn't have any trouble using any group III- group IV oil out there.

BTW, my fiancee is from Ontario~ Kitchener. She and I have researched properties from N.S. to B.C. I drive up the 401 to see her and her family quite often, and I'm very impressed with what I've seen of Canada and it's people. Like my better half would say, " Canada is a kinder, more gentle country " ~ compared to the states. I say she's 100% correct.

Canada is cleaner with better roads and respectful drivers.......not so in the states in the least. So if my fiancee has anything to say about it.......and she does believe me, you'll have a U.S. ex-patriot BITOG member as the newest Canadian citizen before you know it.

I notice you are a veteran. I am going to Afghanistan myself next month for a six month tour of the Khandahar region. Should be back home by September. Going to miss my oil, Dodge and Cummins websites though...

I own a fleet of 8 taxis and use XD3 in all of them year-round. used oil analysis always come back excellent. The last batch I picked up from the bulk outlet was around $4.20/L+tax. It's a steal for a Group 4 synthetic. I'd definitely recomend it over anything from Co-op.

Right on, I am definitely considering using XD3 0w40 in my Cummins. Price sure is right.

XD3 is a true synthetic D-Roc.

Not trying to speak for Olympic. D-Roc, Olympic has done 40K OCI with XD3 with amazing oil analysis results on a Pontiac Vibe, please correct me if I am wrong Olympic.

Put 0-40 XD3 in your Cummins during the most extreme cold winter, do an analysis, you wont go to anything else after the results in my opinion D-Roc, -60F flow rate. We had a cold nasty winter here last year, -40C, I had 6 ppm iron in my analysis last winter on 0-40 XD3 and last year I did not have my wolverine oil pan heater either. XD3 0-40 this year with a wolverine heat pad means to me that "winter is obsolete" hurting this engine. 15.7 visc at 100C is no slouch for summer time heat either, 15-40 XD3 dino for summer in a Cummins is no slouch either, 15.4 visc at 100C, thing is, there is only a difference of a $1.20 per litre. As Olympic said, this oil is a great deal.

Olympic with his fleet of vehicles and extensive miles accumulated on his vehicles using XD3 is a good source as are farmers servicing machinery as I mentioned earlier.

Olympic, is that $4.20 per litre for 0-30 XD3 now, last time I bought a couple flats 0-30 for my X-Trail a year ago I paid $3.75? $4.20 was my 0-40 XD3 price at Esso at that time when I bulked up. UFA is now $22.70 for 5 litres jug of Polar Plus 0-30 (XD3 syn) that is $4.54 litre, UFA and Esso price gap narrowing on XD3? Dont buy UFA in litre bottles, $5.35 and no bulk price in flats of 12, I tried to get that.

I'm not sure where you are buying the Esso XD3 the last time I talked to the Esso bulk dealer in Regina, he wanted over $6 a liter, what a rip off. I can get the Co-op for under $5. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know where to buy. I guess the billions in profits aren't enough, still more and more greedy.

I use in my PSD 7.3 Amsoil 5w30 it is a very good 100% synthetic oil. I am thinking of trying the 15w40 though.
