Ouch! I paid $5.90 for CA wannabe premium 91* at Costco and was lucky to get it. My grandnieces paid $5.19 for 87* rag in Lost Hills on their way home to Oceanside and were giddy.

a week ago a barrel of WTI was 93 bucks and change and WTI was below 83 today. One week.
a week ago the business news talking heads were saying it was on its way to 100..

I think we all know the price at the pump goes up like a rocket but it comes down like a feather and it depends on where you live what the actual price is at the pump which has little to do with the base cost of oil.

The base cost of oil is the driving market for cost. Yes there are delays & stations that play games in the meantime but the barrel of oil is what the cost will be in general + markup. All states set their own tax cost on fuel so there are differences there too. We rely very much on foreign oil to boot & the Suadi's have made a point to cut 1mil. barrels a day for the last several months to drive up cost & the us oil industry takes advantage of that as well.
