Hi all 400km now after an oil (Delvac 1, first time in this car) and filters change (1 ryco z115 and 1 Donaldson hydraulic spec filter, both first time units in this car also), these last two
mornings it has taken up to 5 sec for my oil light to go off, it starts
to make a lot of noise until the oil gets up.It didn't do it the first
two mornings after the oil change (that I noticed)

Does the Nissan patrol TD4.2 GQ engine have an anti drain back valve incorporated or
is it in the filter or could the Oil becausing this problem?
The oil pressure hot is within manufacturers specifications.

What is the most likely suspect in these situations.

Thanks for any help I need to jump on this, it's just no good!!

Try Nisson filter, and what wt of oil are you useing,,,,prefer a good semi synt,5w30,the Delvac may not be good,,out where you live i heard good reports on Lubrication Enginners engine oils as they are available there,,,,,,,,,,,,BL

Thanks Brian it is 5w-40, cannot really go lighter where I live, actually until I started to read here I had always used a basic mineral 15w or 20w-50. One 4cyl petrol engine is now close to 400k old without a problem.

This morning I bought a couple of genuine Nissan filters and I will swap the Ryco out in anticipation for tomorrows cold start. If no joy I will then swap out the good filter:(
I guess it has to be either one or the other or both

probably be the ADBV in the Donaldson full flow, I have had a couple not hold well now, (very ticked off, considering the price) also had problems with Sakuras, Wix (Sakura) Ryco, correct # Donaldson, the list goes on.....Contact whoever you got the filter from, tell them the ADBV isn't holding and try to get another from a different batch. You will know if it is the ADBV, as if you leave the engine off overnight then spin the filter off in the morning it will be empty.
When the ADBV holds, the oil light goes out in two seconds.

Any Xw-30 is too light for a TD42 (if you could even find a diesel oil that light here), and as for the Delvac 1 being no good.......

Rick thanks for the guidance, will try that first thing in the morning.

I do now suspect it is the Donaldson as I swapped out the Ryco for a genuine waited 2 hours and the light stayed on for around 4 seconds, noisy but none of the banging and crashing of the last 2 morning starts, but my pressure is now higher at idle with the genuine on and the Ryco gone - thought that was interesting but probably not surprising

I will give the sellers a ring in the morning.
Just as an aside is there any downside to running 2 Donaldson's? and curious to know what pressure your engine runs hot at 100km/h and in 5th - (2050rpm)I have up to 50psi or approx 3.1 to 3.5 on the dash.Interested to compare.

I went away from the Donaldson combination filter, as I didn't like the construction. It was a bit messy internally (made in Indonesia), as was the P557780 full flow filter, which also had really crappy ADBV's. I had a couple of good ones early on, then went through four in short order that wouldn't hold.
One combination of filters I was using at one stage had the oil light on for nearly 8 seconds at start up.

I had a similar ADBV problem with an OE Nissan full flow filter, as well as all the others listed previously.
On the Outerlimits Nissan board, a lot of blokes went to Fleetguards and this solved their problems. I've only had the problem with the two previous P169071 Donaldsons, (I use it on one of our other vehicles, all the others were fine) and the thing filters so well, I've persisted with it. The current filter leaks back a bit, (nearly 4 secs oil light out) but there is no noise at startup, and no difference in sound between oil light on and off.

I've no idea on pressures, as we only have the idiot light.

I've had the same problem with my Pajero and have gone through half a doz brands,I'll do a post in the filter forum soon. The one I've found that works is a PC filter made in Japan and has a silocon ADV.Dunno if you can get them there.
