I'm getting a diesel-powered genset in a few days, and I wondered how many hours I need to put on it before I switch to a pure synthetic oil. Would 30 hours under load be sufficient? It's a 4-cylinder Isuzu industrial diesel engine, the 4LE1 model. About 32hp, hooked to a 15kw generator. It's naturally aspirated. Thanks.

Hi,
in dealing with similar engines in Reefer units (variable load) I have always allowed about 50 hours

We have started some Isuzu engines off sooner too (around 20-30 hours) and they never had a bedding in issue

Regards
Doug

I don't there will be an issue with syn oil and breakin . I am old school as I like a couple of short mile/ hour oil changes to get rid of the break in crud.
