I stopped at AAP to price AGM batteries and they had a few DieHard AGM for $219. Listed as DieHard Platinum with 3 year warranty. They also had a non AGM DieHard Platinum for $199 with a 4 year warranty. What makes the $199 version good enough for a longer warranty than an AGM?

you are overpaying so they throw in longer warranty ?? marketing.
longer warranty = better = sell it for more $$$

I should ask what size battery before making that sort of statement.

That sounds like an H8 battery but it's $195 at Pepboys. I think they're both the same, they used to be JCI/Clarios batteries before going to the Diehard name so it's probably the same thing. The Champion battery at Pepboys has a 4 year warranty. I'm thinking that while they're not doing great, they'll probably still be around in 4 years. I actually have a 13 year old AGM battery so I'm not too worried about the warranty although I suppose if you were in a hot state it would matter more.
