Did my battery overcharge?

I bought a new battery for my ATV at Walmart, poured in the battery acid and put it on the charger. Below is the battery and charger I have. I put it on 2 amps and then checked it 30-45 minutes later and it was full, green light on the charger was on so I disconnected it. I checked the voltage with my volt meter yesterday and today and it's at 12.94V, I thought it was supposed to be about 12.6V? Did it overcharge it? My charger has always charged other batteries to 12.6V even after leaving them on the charger all night.

I wrote with a Sharpie on it 1/16 so I would remember when I got it

Thats an AGM battery. When new they may show higher voltage. Put a small load on it and see if it goes down or comes back up

AGMs tend to charge to a slightly higher voltage. What did you read the voltage with?

2 amps might have been rough on it. IMO the best way to charge is in parallel with a full size battery "friend".

No big deal. A brand new AGM may read a tick higher because it can hold the "surface" charge longer. As others said, put a load on it, let it recover, and then re-test.

I thought you needed a special charger for a AGM battery, not that old school style charger that you have?

Lol, I've only ever used Walmart batteries in my quad the past 10-11 years. Always have lasted just fine.

Id never try to completely charge an AGM batt like that with a bulk "little brain" charger you are.

That charger doesn't have an AGM setting , and I'm positive it can't auto detect battery chemistry. Its made for dumb charging wet plate lead acids.

So long as it doesn't have an 'equalize' phase, AGM and flooded-cell charging parameters are very similar- no harm done unless you try to equalize the AGM. Little chargers don't have 'equalize' setting because that requires pushing LOTS of current.

AGM can have higher voltage also temperature affects voltage.

If it was outside in my garage at 2F last night I can guarantee it would be lower.

Low maintenance batteries such as yours should read between 12.8 and 13.0 volts when measured one hour after charging [according to Yuasa]. Conventional batteries should read from 12.6 to 12.8.
