Dexos is just a spec. If you look on the back of the bottle you'll see all the other specs for other manufacturers. Dexos is a pretty decent spec and all the oils are synblend or higher.

I'm surprised you didn't throw Motorcraft in there. Thats been popular among the ford based members.

they only offer 5W20 MC at my local wal mart, i dont like running 5W20 in the vulcan.

And ive lived in Louisiana my whole life, born and raised, i sure didnt forget how hot it is lol, sometimes too hot. The 3.0 Vulcans were designed with 5W30, im just partial to 5W30.

yeah man, i rather the cold weather, although it does not get very cold down here, low 30's at most.Id take a cold day any day over this heat.

To piggyback Volk06. At operating temperatures ambient temperatures are not really a factor to consider. Ambient temperatures have the largest effects on oil before and after engine shut off. Meaning like yesterday the 116F temperature here kept the oil temperatures in the sump from cooling down after engine shut off and before engine start the oil was less viscus than it would be at 0F. That being said the operating temperature of the oil really was not much higher than in a winter conditions where is it 20F outside something like 10-15F. It takes longer for the oil to cool down when it is hot outside but it also take less time for the oil to reach operating temperatures to. Like much in life there are trade offs.
I was told: If you don't use an oil with the "Dexos" Logo on it, GM threatens to void your warranty. And if you want the Dexos Logo on your "quality" oil, you have to pay licensing fees for every single quart you sell. $$$
