Mobil 1 5w30 is the only oil that i have seen that carries the DEXOS logo. The dexos website lists lots of other brands, many which we carry but none of them carry the logo. I know that GM has a royalty for using the DEXOS logo but I thought that in order to be DEXOS certified the royalty was part of the agreement. Has GM changed there 'ways', what's the scoop.

True...

Only until electric vehicles come in and take over with few moving parts requiring less lubrication.

For the approved oils, you'll see the logos sooner or later. It seems that SOPUS always has a stockpile of old labels. We already saw that PP was being marked as SM/GF-4 long after the rollout of SN/GF-5, and that the bottle stampings indicated that the product was SN/GF-5, even if the bottle didn't say so. I bet if someone checked a recent PP bottle that still lacked the dexos1 label that it was filled long after dexos1 approval was obtained.

So, Mobil has the money to buy new labels but poor Pennzoil doesn't and has to wait to use up the old labels. Lol

Or, Pennzoil, since its synthetics dont sell so well, has to hope that people will believe that it is the new stuff though the label says otherwise.

I have seen the dexo's label on the new bottles of royal purple. Now I cannot recall if it said it meets the new dexo's spec or if it was the real thing. I can check tomorrow because I bought a few bottles for my chevy. And I recall seeing the dexo's name on a bottle of amsoil 5w30 SSO but there again I don't recall if it said it just meets the spec. I will have a look and report back

A CSR for Quaker State told me in an email that the Ultimate Durability SN/GF-5 met the dexos1 standards and the SM/GF-4 did not. Take it for what it's worth.

I believe that dexos covers all of the SN/GL-5 spec plus some. I'm not sure if the 'some' is really that important. I know for quite a while that some of the oil companies claimed that they did indeed meet dexos but would not pay the fees. GM has made a 'warranty statement' that states that if your vehicle experiences an engine failure and you are not using dexos then your warranty may not cover the cost of repairs. (paraphrased)

Very recently, the quart bottles of M1 don't all have the logo, the 5 quart jugs all have it.

Where I live Pennzoil Ultra, SureGuard, Mobil 1, MAG 1 are in stock at the parts store with the dexos1 logo . Walmart has the logo on PU qts. but not the 5 qt jugs.

That's impressive. The RP site seems to indicate that it meets dexos1, rather than is certified. That's good to know for those who want to use it. It's rather ironic that they go from SL straight to SN and dexos1.

Or SOPUS just buys too many at once and doesn't want to waste them. For most North American and Japanese cars, SM/GF-4 is enough. Aside from that, they're aware that it's mostly BITOGers that read the labels anyway.

Realistically, if someone with a GM with a dexos1 requirement has a warranty problem, and the dealer or GM asks for receipts, the receipt might say Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30. It's not going to say anything about dexos1 or which API and ILSAC specs the oil met. They're not going to be asking for empty bottles. If the receipts were to say M1 5w-30 or PP 5w-30 (or any other dexos1 licenced oil), I'd suspect that would be sufficient.

Well it's got the dexo's label. Now does that mean it's certified or just meets the spec,I don't know for sure I do know the dexo's label is on there

The Amsoil and Royal Purple say their oils meet the dexos1 spec on the label. I doubt they have the green dexos logo on the bottle.

Sopus not wanting to waste? I think you are assuming too much

You are assuming that an oil company would be environmentally conscious!
