Deutsch filter circa 1994 cut open

I was doing some cleaning in the garage today and found this filter, it was bought no later than 1994 and was for my then girlfriends 1991 Mercury Cougar 3.8L

So, how does that compare to other filters you've seen?

I remember using these on my old Escort back in '93-'94.

A Purolator clone?

I believe it was made by Champion. IMO it is on par with most other offerings with the exception of fram, in which case it is of far superior construction.

This filter was made by Champion. Notice it looks like a M1 and K&N filter. These filters were sold by Auto Zone. I've used many of them in the 90s.

Talk about a flashback! I remember seeing these on the shelf at Autozone many years ago! These are almost as funny as the LEE filters I remember seeing as a kid.

Actually no, when I was 16 and just getting into cars, the auto parts store by my house had a display with 3 oil filters chopped open. A Fram, a Wix and some other brand. That's what got me started on Wix and possibly my oil obsession!

I remember seeing those cut open filter displays at autozone, wonder why they stopped doing that? I bet fram had something to do with it, it was likely really hurting sales.
